College Preparation, College Scholarships and Financial Aid Handbook

Welcome.
You share a common bond with past, present and future visitors of this site:
college dreams for a loved-one (a child, a relative, or yourself).
This very page is the main form of this website. If you follow the text of this page, you will find the three most important links in viewing this site. They will help you navigate the site efficiently and in the least amount of time.

This site actually resulted from a favor to a loved-one, some very strong personal feelings on the subject matter, and a realization that friends and acquaintances around me needed help too. For more specific information in that area, please click on the link below, "Learn more about the author", and then simply click on "BACK" at the end of the page to return right here.

A few subject areas below will help you avoid some mistakes that many of us have made.
The foremost important thing I've learned is that
College preparation and financial planning
SHOULD BEGIN IN THE 8TH GRADE!

Getting information out to parents and students is so critical -- especially the parents.
Compiling information about entering college is quite a bit of work for an adult and especially for a teen.
The College Preparation, College Scholarships and Financial Aid Handbook contains all areas of college preparation - compiled, organized, and indexed for you in one complete source.

This handbook is about convenience; it's about saving time;
it's about educating parents
with information that is not common knowledge unless you happen to work in the educational field or you've been to college yourself. In fact you'll find that children of college graduates generally attend college themselves...no coincidence there--they've been through the process and know the "what's", "when's" and "how's".

What you should know about our school systems...
Sure, all parents want their kids to go to college and reach greater achievements, but
reality dictates that many (most) of us rely on the school system to educate our students about the ins and outs of preparing for college. Sadly, the school systems cover the bases by making sure students take adequate courses if going to college, leaving the rest up to the students and their parents to figure out.
Parents don't know that time is their worst enemy and teenagers (at this age) aren't focused and motivated to a sufficient extent to get a good, solid college preparation foundation full circle, specifically meaning academic, personal, and financial preparation.

Let's use my household for an example:
Ask my 16-year-old step-son, a junior in high school, about his financial preparation for college. You'll get a blank stare. He's worried about saving enough money for a car, car insurance, gas money, and an MP3 audio music player! Looking for scholarship money for college has never entered his mind!
Ask him about his high school academics--small engine repair and typing. Now he's trying to cram in some good classes for his transcript but he's struggling because the classes he selected with help from high school counselors in the 9th and 10th grades didn't prepare him for the courses he's trying to tackle now.
Personal college preparation...? I don't even want to go there! He's the typical teenager!

Being a responsible parent...
College preparation cannot and should not be left solely upon the shoulders of our high school teenagers; there's a reason teenagers can't vote or do many other adult functions at this age - their responsibility and maturity levels aren't fully developed. We as parents need to be educated and motivated to monitor our childrens' college prep activities and in doing so we need to know what to do, what is required, and the when's and how's of the whole process.

This handbook puts that information right at our fingertips. You don't have to research, you don't have to surf, you don't have to read a bunch of different books or pamphlets. You can take it with you whereever you go and use it whenever you like, during lunchtime at work or in a waiting room at an appointment.
Getting started now with the handbook will increase your child's success with his/her college future.

Thinking on the right track...
think about what your child's future is worth.

...not in dollars and cents; think in terms of time. As a parent, what value would be an accurate representation of your child's future? Are you thinking about dollars again and the cost of college? By using time wisely with proper college preparation you can increase your child's scholarships eligibility. And there's more help coming your way because this handbook is extremely affordable at only \\$13.95.
Without the handbook time will be the obstacle for you to overcome.
Be honest with yourself; if you are unable to set aside the time needed to research proper college preparation for your child, then you need this handbook to get the information you need without spending the time.
I've done the research, the sifting, the sorting, the organizing, the indexing and the composition. How was I able to do it? I had two months off from work with complete and uninterrupted time on my hands. Could I have done it efficiently while working a fulltime job, taking care of a household and children? No.

A cause I believe in...
I see teenagers with more interest in body piercing and loitering at the malls; many have given up in school. I wish I had the opportunity to tell their parents that these kids have a chance. College admissions officers and college scholarship programs are looking for their creativity.
There are many gifted teenagers out there, and they aren't all on the "A" Honor Roll.

Parents don't know.
This handbook is for them.

Well, if you've made it this far reading and you aren't convinced yet that this handbook is for you, I will still claim success if I have caused you to truly begin planning now for your child's educational future with or without this handbook.

Father Time is your enemy.

Bottom-line:

If it's probable that you (as a parent) will procrastinate in making time or simply will not have the time to invest in looking for and reviewing college preparation materials and sources, you need to get this handbook and get started now.
You cannot put a price on a child's future; prepare early for success.

Reality dictates...Reality -- real life. Who has time?
Even those of us with the best intentions procrastinate to our own disadvantage and/or the disadvantage of our children: "I'll make time to...", "This time I'm going to...", "Next time I will..."
You must find the time to prepare your child for college. If you don't, who will?
DO NOT PUT IT OFF.
Have you started a college savings fund for your child yet? Have you started investing for your own retirement? Have you started planning for your retirement yet?
Have you changed the oil in your vehicle every 2,500 miles?

Chances are we, as parents, will procrastinate at getting the information we need for our children's college preparation--not voluntarily, but obstacles present themselves and Father Time eludes us. If you've decided to go it alone and get the information you need that's great! Since I've gotten you motivated, please do this...bookmark this site now, mark your calendar today and give yourself 2-3 weeks to complete the task by marking the ending time on your calendar also. If you find that you did not have the time to locate and research the necessary information or you feel the information you compiled is incomplete, please reconsider getting my handbook.
